Just wrapped up another four refined sketches from my series focusing on Chicago rooftop drawings. I’m pretty happy with how they’re coming out, and I’m also trying not to play it too safe all the time. I want to experiment a bit and see how this subject can appeal to me. Gotta keep it fresh, ya know?! So far I’ve been enjoying how dropping the context transforms the objects into abstract industrial forms. They’re still recognizable, but without the ground there to tell you where the object is at it opens up your perception in how you look at the form for a moment.
Also, I had a chance to get out on the bike and take a photo tour around Pilsen, Bridgeport, and the South loop. Perfect cloudless day makes for some great source photos! Did you know I have a Tumblr where I occasionally post these shots? Well I do! : http://www.tumblr.com/blog/mattkuhlman
