In this episode I talk with fellow University of Kansas alum Alex Kvares about his mind-bending drawings that draw references from several cultural and counter-culutural sources. Follow the link below to listen to the full interview on Big Red & Shiny.
Listen to Studio Sessions: Alex Kvares on Big Red & Shiny
About Alex: Alex earned a BFA in painting from the University of Kansas, and an MFA in printmaking from the University of Texas.
His drawings often contain unusual, sometimes grotesque figures in abstract environments. In his most recent drawings his abstract patterns and forms made with dense clusters of marks consume the entire page.
Listen as Alex explains where this imagery is drawn from, and the various cycles his ideas and work go through over time.
